Investigation of the Relationship Between Body Condition Score and Milk Yield, Calf Performance and Pregnancy in Holstein Breed Pregnant Heifers

This study was carried out to determine the relationship between body condition score (BCS) determined at birth and early lactation (first 100 days), lactation milk yield (305 days), the number of inseminations resulting in pregnancy, and birth and growth characteristics in Holstein pregnant heifers. In the study, 59 pregnant heifers (24±2 months old) and 55 heads (30♀ and 25♂) calves born from these heifers were used. BCS values of heifers were determined at the time of birth using the BCS application and scored as 3.50 (n=18), 3.75 (n=31) and 4.00 (n=10). As a result of the study, the relationship between BCS values and calves weight and body length at birth was significant (P<0.05). The birth weight and body length of the calves obtained from cows with a BCS score of 3.75 and 4.00 were higher than those with a BCS score of 3.50. The effect of BCS on other features examined in the study was not significant. According to the results of this study, it is possible to say that BCS is one of the positive criteria in improving calf performance in the management and selection studies to be carried out in the enterprises. There is a need for similar studies using more animals in different enterprises, in order to reach more precise judgments.

Holstein Irkı Gebe Düvelerde Vücut Kondisyon Skoru ile Süt Verimi, Buzağı Performansı ve Gebelik İlişkilerinin Araştırılması

Bu çalışma Holstein ırkı gebe düvelerde doğumda belirlenen vücut kondisyon skoru (VKS) ile erken laktasyon (ilk 100 gün), laktasyon süt verimi (305 gün), gebelikle sonuçlanan tohumlama sayısı ve buzağılarda doğum ve büyüme performansı özellikleri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada Holstein ırkı 59 baş gebe düve (24±2 aylık yaşta) ve bu düvelerden doğan 55 baş (30♀ ve 25♂) buzağı kullanılmıştır. Düvelerin VKS değerleri doğumda ve VKS aplikasyon uygulaması kullanılarak belirlenmiştir. Gebe düvelerde VKS’ ler 3.50 (n=18), 3.75 (n=31) ve 4.00 (n=10) olmak üzere üç şekilde skorlanmıştır. Çalışmada VKS değerleri ile ineklerde erken laktasyon ve laktasyon süt verimi, gebelikle sonuçlanan tohumlama sayısı ve buzağıların büyüme performansı arasındaki ilişki önemli olmamış ancak VKS ile buzağılarda doğum ağırlığı (P<0.05) ve vücut uzunluğu (P<0.05) arasındaki ilişki önemli bulunmuştur. Doğumda VKS skoru 3.75 ve 4.00 olan ineklerden elde edilen buzağıların doğum ağırlığı ve vücut uzunluğu VKS skoru 3.50 olanlardan daha yüksek olmuştur. Bu çalışmanın sonuçlarına göre işletmelerde yapılacak yönetim ve seleksiyon çalışmalarında VKS’nin buzağı performansını iyileştirmede olumlu kriterlerden biri olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Daha kesin yargılara varabilmek için farklı işletmelerde daha fazla sayıda hayvan kullanılarak yapılacak benzer çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
