The current global economic system is a system that produces economic, social and environmental crises. This situation proves that the system is unsustainable in every respect and reveals the necessity of searching for alternative paths for the course of the system. Emerging as a radical critique of the global economic growth paradigm, degrowth challenges the logic of unlimited growth and its harmful economic, social and environmental effects. Advocates of degrowth propose this challenge as a solution to the conflict between economy and nature, emphasizing the need for a radical transformation that includes social, cultural and political dimensions. This study aims to analyze the emergence of the idea of degrowth as a radical critique of the global economic growth paradigm and the economic, social and environmental arguments of the degrowth hypothesis from a political economy perspective and to discuss the criticisms towards degrowth.
