DISTRIBUTED LEADERSHIP: A REVIEW ON GRONN AND SPILLANE’S PERSPECTIVES

Öz

Today, as societies and cultures are being reshaped, the needs and expectations of the changing society are also being redefined. In this environment, effective leaders are needed more than ever to meet these needs. The question of what effective leadership is or how it should be remains on the agenda. In recent years, some of the answers to this question have focused on the distributed leadership approach. The purpose of this study is to examine the distributed leadership approach, which is seen as an example of effective leadership with qualities that will meet the needs of the global world where change is accelerating. In this context, firstly, the historical development of the distributed leadership approach is discussed, and then the theoretical framework of the approach is drawn by focusing on what distributed leadership is and what it is not. After revealing different perspectives on distributed leadership within the framework of the views of Gronn and Spillane, who are the most well-known advocates of the approach, the strengths of the distributed leadership approach are discussed in the context of the positive results that emerged in organisations where this approach is adopted. The weaknesses of the distributed leadership approach are analysed in terms of the obstacles to the implementation of the distributed leadership approach and the negative consequences that may arise from this approach. In this study, which employs a traditional literature review design, information on distributed leadership was collected through a literature review based on primary and secondary sources.

DAĞITILMIŞ LİDERLİK: GRONN VE SPILLANE’İN PERSPEKTİFİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Öz

Günümüzde, toplumlar ve kültürler yeniden şekillenirken ihtiyaçlar ve beklentiler de yeniden tanımlanmaktadır. Söz konusu ihtiyaçların karşılanması bakımından etkili liderlere her zamankinden daha çok ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Etkili liderliğin ne olduğu veya nasıl olması gerektiği sorusu ise gündemdeki yerini korumaktadır. Son yıllarda bu soruya verilen cevaplardan bir kısmı, dağıtılmış liderlik yaklaşımı üzerinde yoğunlaşmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, değişimin hız kazandığı küresel dünyanın ihtiyaçlarına cevap verecek niteliklere sahip etkili liderliğin bir örneği olarak görülen dağıtılmış liderlik yaklaşımını irdelemektir. Bu bağlamda, öncelikle dağıtılmış liderlik yaklaşımının tarihsel gelişimi ele alınmış, sonrasında ise dağıtılmış liderliğin ne olduğu ve ne olmadığı üzerinde durularak yaklaşımın kuramsal çerçevesi çizilmeye çalışılmıştır Yaklaşımın en bilinen savunucularından Gronn ve Spillane’in görüşleri çerçevesinde dağıtılmış liderliğe farklı bakış açıları ortaya konulduktan sonra dağıtılmış liderliğin örnek uygulamalarına yer verilerek dağıtılmış liderlik yaklaşımının güçlü yanları, bu yaklaşımın benimsendiği örgütlerde ortaya çıkan olumlu sonuçlar bağlamında; zayıf yanları ise dağıtılmış liderlik yaklaşımının hayata geçirilmesinin önündeki engeller ve bu yaklaşımın doğurabileceği olumsuz sonuçlar bağlamında incelenmiştir. Geleneksel alanyazın taramasının benimsendiği bu çalışmada, dağıtılmış liderliğe ilişkin bilgiler birincil ve ikincil kaynaklara dayalı alanyazın taraması yöntemiyle toplanmıştır.
