The Intersection of Phenomenology and Theology in The Thought of Jean Luc Marion

This article examines how the phenomenological approach of Jean Luc Marion (1946 - ), considered as one of the important thinkers of contemporary French philosophy, revitalized theological discourse by highlighting the limits of traditional metaphysics and rational understanding when encountering the divine. Marion attempted to make a rigorous argument for philosophy to accept everything given to consciousness and in doing so to think the possibility of divine revelation. Marion's attempt to expand phenomenology provides a means for philosophy to consider almost every phenomenon claimed to manifest to consciousness. Marion's phenomenological framework, which focuses particularly on the concept of saturated phenomena and givenness, offers a strong critique of the idolatrous tendencies of conceptual thought. Marion attempts to open new ways to grasp the divine by emphasizing the experiential giveability of phenomena that exceed the capacity of our rational and epistemic faculties. These ways result in the intersection of theology and phenomenology. In this respect, Marion introduces the concepts of revelation and givenness while developing his phenomenology. Here, the relationship between the phenomena that originate from the human gaze and transcend it and the Divine is discussed. Considering the issues in question, the article proceeds from the claim that Marion founded theology by using phenomenology as a method, and the idea that the boundaries between philosophy and theology are blurred is put forward.

Jean Luc Marion Düşüncesinde Fenomenoloji ve Teolojinin Kesişimi

Öz

Bu makale, Çağdaş Fransız felsefesinin önemli düşünürlerinden biri olarak görülen Jean Luc Marion'un (1946 - ) fenomenolojik yaklaşımının, ilahi olanla karşılaşıldığında geleneksel metafiziğin ve rasyonel kavrayışın sınırlarının altını çizerek teolojik söylemi nasıl yeniden canlandırdığını incelemektedir. Marion, felsefenin bilince verilen her şeyi kabul etmesi ve bunu yaparken de ilahi vahyin olasılığını düşünmek için titiz bir argüman oluşturmaya çalışmıştır. Marion'un fenomenolojiyi genişletme girişimi, felsefenin bilince tezahür ettiği iddia edilen hemen her fenomeni dikkate alması için bir araç sunmaktadır. Marion'un özellikle doygun fenomen ve verilmişlik kavramına odaklanan fenomenolojik çerçevesi, kavramsal düşüncenin putperest eğilimlerine karşı güçlü bir eleştiri sunar. Marion, rasyonel ve epistemik yetilerimizin kapasitesini aşan fenomenlerin deneyimsel verilebilirliğini vurgulayarak, ilahi olanı kavramak için yeni yollar açmaya çalışır. Bu yollar teoloji ile fenomenolojinin kesişmesi ile sonuçlanır. Bu açıdan Marion fenomenolojisini geliştirirken, Vahiy ve verilmişlik kavramlarını devreye sokar. Burada insanın bakışından kaynaklanan ve onun bakışını aşan fenomenlerin İlahi olan ile ilişkisi tartışılır. Söz konusu meseleler göz önüne alındığında makalede, Marion’un fenomenolojiyi bir yöntem olarak kullanarak teolojiyi temellendirdiği iddiası üzerinden hareket edilmekte ve felsefe ile teolojinin sınırlarının bulanıklaştığı düşüncesi ileri sürülmektedir.
