Analysis of Attitude and Self-Efficacy of Middle School Students Towards Geometry

Abstract

In this study, research was conducted on the attitudes and self-efficacy of middle school students towards geometry. The Attitude Scale towards Geometry and the Self-Efficacy Scale towards Geometry were used as instruments Ozdisci, 2019 . The research was carried out in accordance with the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. For the data obtained, analyses were done by using the SPSS 25 package program. The instruments of the research were administered to 227 middle school students, 121 girls and 106 boys in Bingöl, Turkey. Descriptive research about the attitudes and self-efficacy of middle school students towards geometry were conducted. An independent samples t test was conducted in order to find out whether there was a mean difference in the attitudes and self-efficacy of middle school students according to gender. As a result of the analyses, no significant mean differences were found in the attitudes and self-efficacy towards geometry depending on the gender variable according to the total scores obtained from the instruments. In addition, ANOVA was run according to grade levels and the results were examined in order to understand whether their attitudes and self-efficacy towards geometry varied at grade levels. Correlation analysis was conducted to understand whether there was a significant relationship between attitude and self-efficacy of middle school students towards geometry. As a result, medium level relationship was determined between the attitudes and selfefficacy of middle school students towards geometry.
