The Relations Between Emotional Regulations Of Social Competent Preschool Children and Emotional Socialization Behaviours Of Their Mothers

This study investigated the relations between emotional regulations of social competent
preschool children and emotional socialization behaviours of their mothers. 160 children, 92
of who had high social competence and 68 had low social competence, and their mothers
were included in the study. The data of the study were obtained by using Social Competence
and Behaviour Assessment 30-Scale, The Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale and
the Regulation of Emotions Checklist. The data were analysed by using the techniques
of Multivariate Analysis of Variance and Multiple Regression Analysis. In the study it was
determined that while emotion regulations of the children differentiated based on social
competence, they did not differentiate based on gender. Also, it was found out that the mothers’
emotion socialisation behaviours are a significant predictor of emotion regulation.
