ADAPTATION OF THE BIOLOGY SELF-EFFICACY SCALE TO TURKISH

Öz

The purpose of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of original version of the biology self-efficacy instrument developed by Woo 1999 in Turkey conditions. Experts and researcher made translation of the scale into Turkish. Then, experts in terms of consistency, content and measurement issues also analyzed the scale. Revised version of the scale was administered to 465 high school students to determine its validity and reliability. The instrument consists of three dimensions those laboratory activities, learning level and problem solving. The instrument consists of 40 items. Reliability analysis of the instrument revealed Cronbach-Alpha coefficients of 0,94 for the generation of the instrument, 0,93 for the dimension of laboratory activities, 0,90 for the dimension of learning level and 0,88 for the dimension of problem solving. These results showed that the biology self-efficacy instrument can be used in Turkey.

BİYOLOJİ ÖZ-YETERLİK ÖLÇEĞİNİN TÜRKÇE’YE UYARLANMASI

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, orijinali Woo 1999 tarafından geliştirilen biyoloji öz-yeterlik ölçeğinin Türkiye koşullarında geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasını yapmaktır. Ölçeğin Türkçeye çevirisi dil uzmanlarınca ve araştırmacı tarafından yapılmıştır. Daha sonra Türkçeye uygunluk, içerik ve ölçme değerlendirme açılarından da uzmanlar tarafından değerlendirilmiştir. Alınan görüşler doğrultusunda düzenlemelerin yapıldığı ölçek, geçerlik ve güvenirliğinin saptanması amacıyla 465 lise öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Ölçeğin yapı geçerliğine ilişkin bulgular faktör analizi yöntemi ile sağlanmıştır. Ölçek üç boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Birinci boyut; Laboratuvar aktiviteleri boyutu, ikinci boyut; Öğrenme seviyesi boyutu ve üçüncü boyut; Problem çözme boyutudur. Ölçek 40 madde içermektedir. Ölçeğin geneli için Cronbach Alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0,94 bulunurken, Laboratuvar aktiviteleri boyutu için 0,93, Öğrenme seviyesi boyutu için 0,90 ve Problem çözme boyutu için 0,88 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar ölçeğin Türkiye’de de kullanılabileceğini göstermiştir.
