A Review on Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in Transportation Science Technology Studies: Bibliometric Analyses

Abstract

Current transportation systems face numerous issues, including reduction of carbon emissions, noise pollution, and other pollutants. These concerns mainly stem from escalating environmental and economic issues throughout society. These restrictions have forced several researchers and business owners in the transportation industry to seek cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable alternatives. The transportation industry has begun to concentrate on hydrogen and fuel cells as key research areas. The article seeks to identify key topics in the research of hydrogen and fuel cells within the field of transportation science and technology studies using bibliometric analysis. We utilized VOSviewer to analyze 984 articles sourced from the Web of Science database related to hydrogen and fuel cells, specifically within the Transportation Science Technology category. The literature was examined for annual variations in publications, research institutions, and leading journals. The primary topics and focal points were determined through literature co-citation analysis and keyword co-occurrence clustering analysis, outlining the present and future landscape of the topic and offering an extensive summary of research themes.
