This study aims to examine Instagram within the framework of Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia.Foucault's definition of heterotopia as a space positioned ‘between the real and the unreal’allows for the concept to be reinterpreted in different contexts. Social media environments, allow individuals to deviate from socialnorms in a way that is both connected to and independent of the real world. Therefore, these platformsfunction as spaces where heterotopia is produced. The studyargues that Instagram has the potential to create heterotopic spaces. To support this claim, purposive sampling criteriasampling was used; specific platform functions thought to reflect the principles of heterotopiaand accounts producing content related to these principleswere selected according to predefined criteria. These contentswere analysed based on Foucault's principles of heterotopia. The analysisconcluded that Instagram, within its functions and operations, has the potential to create spaces of deviation, take on new functions, bring together different times and spaces, archive historical times and spaces, enable rites of passage, andreflect society by creating cultural spaces.
