Studies on School Consultation Conducted Between 1990 and 2000: A Meta-Synthesis Study

Öz

The aim of this meta-synthesis is to examine the studies conducted on school consultation. For this purpose, a total of 20 articles between 1990 and 2000 were selected and analyzed through purposive sampling method. The articles were accessed from Google Scholar, Sage Journals, and Taylor & Francis Online databases. The research included in this meta-synthesis has been classified as experimental, quasi-experimental, case studies (n=19) and survey studies (n=1). Within the scope of this meta-synthesis, the data were evaluated under the headings of the “samples of the studies”, “methods”, “consultation models”, “main topics”, “data collection tools”, and “research findings”. In addition, the subthemes and variables that may be related to the effectiveness of consultation studies were included. According to the findings, consultation services implemented in schools are mostly based on behavioral consultation models, and it is generally understood that consultation is helpful for participants. The importance of progressing the consultation process collaboratively, providing performance feedback during the process, tailoring consultation to individual needs and environments, and the importance of
follow-up and effectiveness studies and consultation training were emphasized in the studies.
