THE ROLE OF INWARD AND OUTWARD FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN TÜRKİYE

Öz

Inward and outward foreign direct investments are one of the tools used by multinational companies to secure foreign capital and establish a foothold in the global economy. Through these investments, companies gain opportunities such as increased capital flows, advanced technology, cost advantages, cheap imports and increased exports. Furthermore, countries are progressing towards becoming major economies through these investments. The aim of this study is to examine Türkiye's inward and outward foreign direct investments for the period 1999:Q1-2024:Q3 and to determine their relationship with economic growth. According to the results, there is a positive relationship between foreign direct investment and economic growth in the long term. Furthermore, according to the causality test results, there is a bidirectional causality relationship between inward foreign direct investment and economic growth in Türkiye, a unidirectional causality relationship from outward foreign direct investment to economic growth, and a unidirectional causality relationship from inward foreign direct investment to outward investment.

TÜRKİYE’DE DOĞRUDAN YABANCI YATIRIM GİRİŞLERİ VE ÇIKIŞLARININ EKONOMİK BÜYÜME ÜZERİNDEKİ ROLÜ

Öz

Doğrudan yabancı yatırım girişleri ve çıkışları, çok uluslu şirketlerin yabancı sermaye sağlamak ve küresel ekonomide yer edinmek için kullandıkları araçlardan biridir. Bu yatırımlar sayesinde şirketler daha fazla sermaye akışı, ileri teknoloji, maliyet avantajı, ucuz ithalat ve artan ihracat gibi fırsatlar elde etmektedir. Ayrıca, ülkeler bu yatırımlarla büyük ülke olma yolunda ilerlemektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, 1999:Q1-2024:Q3 dönemi için Türkiye’nin doğrudan yabancı yatırım girişleri ile doğrudan yabancı yatırım çıkışlarını incelemek ve bunların ekonomik büyüme ile ilişkisini belirlemektir. Sonuçlara göre uzun dönemde doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar ile ekonomik büyüme arasında pozitif bir ilişki vardır. Ayrıca nedensellik testi sonucuna göre Türkiye’de doğrudan yabancı yatırım girişleri ile ekonomik büyüme arasında çift yönlü, doğrudan yabancı yatırım çıkışlarından ekonomik büyümeye doğru tek yönlü ve doğrudan yabancı yatırım girişlerinden yatırım çıkışlarına doğru ise tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi vardır.
