Öz

Ekonomik özgürlük ve ekonomik büyüme arasındaki pozitif ilişki teorik ve ampirik çalışmalarda genel olarak kanıtlanmıştır. Ancak literatürde ekonomik özgürlük ve girişimcilik arasındaki ilişkinin tespitine ilişkin çalışmalara daha az rastlanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı ekonomik özgürlüğün girişimcilik faaliyetlerinin nasıl etkilediğini ampirik olarak incelemektir. AB ülkeleri ve Türkiye özelinde gerçekleştirilen analizde 2006-2016 dönemine ilişki veri setinden yaranılmış ve yöntem olarak GMM tercih edilmiştir. Analiz sonuçları; ekonomik özgürlükler, iş yapma özgürlüğü, yatırım özgürlüğü, işsizlik oranları ve finansal gelişme arttıkça girişimcilik faaliyetinin arttığını göstermektedir. Diğer yandan bağımlı değişkenin kendi gecikmeli değeri de istatistiksel olarak pozitif ve anlamlı olması, daha önceki dönemlerde gerçekleştirilen girişimcilik faaliyetlerinin cari dönem girişimcilik faaliyetlerini özendirici/teşvik edici bir etkisinin olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır

Economic Freedom and Entrepreneurial Activity: A Study in the Case of EU Countries and Turkey

Öz

The positive relationship between economic freedom and economic growth has been generally proven in theoretical and empirical studies. However, studies on the determination of the relationship between economic freedom and entrepreneurship are less common in the literature. The aim of this study is to empirically examine how economic freedom affects entrepreneurial activities. In the analysis carried out specifically for EU countries and Turkey, the data set for the period of 2006-2016 was used and the GMM was preferred as the method. Analysis results; It shows that entrepreneurial activity increases as economic freedoms, freedom of doing business, freedom of investment, unemployment rates and financial development increase. On the other hand, the fact that the dependent variable's own lagged value is statistically positive and significant reveals that the entrepreneurial activities carried out in the previous periods have an encouraging/encouraging effect on the current period entrepreneurial activities.
