EFFECT OF KINESIOTAPING ON PAIN, RESPIRATORY FUNCTION AND MOBILITY IN TREATMENT OF RIB FRACTURES

Öz

Objective: Rib fractures are the most common chest injury encountered after blunt thoracic trauma. Kinesio tape can be used in a wide variety of clinical settings and is used for pain relief as well as biomechanical correction. We aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of kinesio tape application on pain, thoracic and shoulder joint motion, and pulmonary function after rib fractures.
Material and Methods: This randomized controlled study included 30 outpatients who were admitted to the physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic with a diagnosis of acute rib fracture. The patients were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 (KT group) received kinesiotape application twice, 4 days apart. VAS pain scores were evaluated at 1 week and 1 month after treatment. Thoracic flexion and extension measurements were taken to assess for thoracic mobility. Shoulder flexion and abduction angles were measured on the side with the rib fracture.
Results: Patients were randomized into two groups as KT group and the control group. In the KT group, VAS score was significantly lower at 1 week and 1 month after treatment compared to the other group (<0.001). Thoracic flexion and extension measurements were significantly higher in the KT group after treatment, respectively (p=0.031, p=0.044). FEV 1 value was significantly higher in the KT group than in the other group (p=0.02).
Conclusion: Kinesio tape application is a highly effective method in pain palliation after rib fracture. At the same time, as a result of our study, kinesio tape application increased thoracic joint range of motion and pulmonary functions after rib fracture.

Kaburga Kırıklarının Tedavisinde Kinesiotape Uygulamasının Ağrı, Solunum Fonksiyonu ve Hareketlilik Üzerine Etkisi

Öz

Amaç: Kosta kırıkları, torasik künt travmalardan sonra karşılaşılan en yaygın göğüs yaralanmasıdır. Kinesiotape (KT) çok çeşitli klinik durumlarda ağrı kesici ve biyomekanik düzeltme için kullanılır. Kosta kırıklarından sonra KT uygulamasının ağrı, torakal ve omuz eklem hareketi ve akciğer fonksiyonu üzerindeki etkinliğini göstermeyi amaçladık.
Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu randomize kontrollü çalışmaya akut Kosta kırığı tanısı ile fiziksel tıp ve rehabilitasyon kliniğine başvuran 30 hasta dâhil edildi. Hastalar rastgele iki gruba ayrıldı. Birinci gruba (KT grubu) dört gün arayla iki kez KT uygulaması yapıldı. Vizüel analog skala (VAS) ağrı skorları tedaviden bir hafta ve bir ay sonra değerlendirildi. Torakal hareketlilik için torasik fleksiyon ve ekstansiyon ölçümleri yapıldı. Kosta kırığı olan tarafta omuz fleksiyon ve abdüksiyon açıları ölçüldü.
Bulgular: Hastalar KT grubu ve kontrol grubu olmak üzere iki gruba rastgele ayrıldı. KT grubunda, VAS skoru tedaviden bir hafta ve bir ay sonra diğer gruba kıyasla anlamlı olarak daha düşüktü (<0,001). Torasik fleksiyon ve ekstansiyon ölçümleri tedaviden sonra sırasıyla KT grubunda anlamlı olarak daha yüksekti (p=0,031, p=0,044). Zorunlu ekspirasyon hacmi 1 (FEV 1) değeri KT grubunda diğer gruba kıyasla anlamlı olarak daha yüksekti (p=0,02).
Sonuç: KT uygulaması kosta kırığı sonrası ağrı palyasyonunda oldukça etkili bir yöntemdir. Aynı zamanda çalışmamızın bir sonucu olarak KT uygulaması kosta kırığı sonrası torasik eklem hareket açıklığını ve pulmoner fonksiyonları artırdı.
