From Information Repositories to Community Centers: Transforming Libraries and Community-Driven Innovations

This study examines the transformation of libraries from information repositories to community centres. The effects of digitalisation, community-oriented service approach and innovative spaces on libraries are examined within the scope of data compiled from the literature. The study discusses how digital technologies transform user experiences by enriching library services, their contribution to the process of democratising access to information, and how accessibility can be increased, especially for disadvantaged groups. In addition, within the framework of the ‘third space’ concept, innovative solutions offered by libraries for the social, cultural and intellectual needs of individuals are evaluated, and the effects of spaces such as makerspaces and digital production laboratories on users' participation in knowledge production are emphasised. In addition to community-oriented library services, the contributions of cooperation with local governments and non-governmental organisations to social equality and social solidarity are also discussed. The information gathered in the study reveals that libraries should go beyond their traditional roles and become multifaceted life centres in areas such as access to information, social interaction and preservation of cultural heritage. In this context, concrete recommendations are offered for both the adaptation of libraries to the digitalisation process and transformation strategies in physical space design.
