Distance Early Childhood Teacher Support Program: Learning Centers

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an individual learning support system, in which time and/or physical setting from instructor, to support the professional development of early childhood educators, separate learners. For this purpose, “Distance Early Childhood Teacher Support Program" was developed. The study was conducted with the volunteer participation of 86 early childhood educators in Turkey. Within the process of web-based distance support system, ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) instructional design model was applied. The study focused on learning centers and the role of the teacher in the context of early childhood education.  Within the scope of the theme, five 3-7-minute-long educational videos were prepared as learning materials. In addition to educational videos, scientific articles and educational web links related to topics has been shared with the participant teachers as additional learning resources. Individual learning assessment materials were also listed and discussion groups have been established. The functionality of the media used was measured by the User Evaluation Survey. The results of the study revealed that distance learning approach to early childhood support program promote the professional development of teachers in the field. Dissemination of such professional development models may impact on current face-to-face inservice teacher education courses.

Uzaktan Okul Öncesi Öğretmen Destek Programı: Öğrenme Merkezleri

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, okul öncesi eğitimcilerinin mesleki gelişimlerini desteklemek ve bunun sürekliliğini sağlamak amacıyla zamandan ve mekandan bağımsız bir öğrenme destek sistemi geliştirmekti. Bu amaçla, geliştirilen Uzaktan Okul Öncesi Öğretmen Destek Programı’na Türkiye genelinde 86 okul öncesi eğitimcisi gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Ağ tabanlı uzaktan destek programı geliştirme sürecinde ADDIE (Analiz, Tasarım, Geliştirme, Uygulama, Değerlendirme) öğretim tasarımı modeli uygulanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında, eğitim içeriği olarak okul öncesinde öğrenme merkezlerinin düzenlenmesi ve öğretmenin rolü üzerine odaklanılmıştır. Söz konusu tema çerçevesinde, öğrenme materyali olarak her biri 3-7 dakikalık beş animasyon destekli eğitim videosu hazırlanmıştır. Eğitim videolarına ek olarak, konu ile ilgili bilimsel yayınlar, eğitim ortamlarına ilişkin web adresleri ek kaynak materyaller olarak öğretmenlerle paylaşılmıştır. Ayrıca her bir eğitim videosu için bireysel öğrenmeyi sınayan değerlendirme materyalleri hazırlanmış ve konularla ilgili tartışma grupları oluşturulmuştur. Kullanılan ortamının işlevselliği, bir kullanıcı değerlendirme anketi hazırlanarak sınanmıştır. Çalışma sonunda, uzaktan eğitim yaklaşımıyla okul öncesi destek programının öğretmenlerin mesleki gelişimini desteklediğine yönelik olumlu bir görüş edinilmiştir. Söz konusu mesleki eğitim modellerinin yaygınlaştırılması halihazırda yüz yüze sürdürülen hizmetiçi eğitimleri de doğrudan etkiler niteliktedir.
