Birth Tradition in Inebolu Folk Culture

There are three important transitional periods in our lives. First of all is the birth. In Inebolu folk culture, A set of traditions and customs have been applied related with birth. Nowadays, scientific and technological developments cause to be forgotten or change of these cultures and beliefs. At this study, we are going to discourse local community’s belief and workship related with the birth traditions belonging to the region in Inebolu folk culture. We aim to transfer to next generation and prevent disappearance of these traditions. Fieldwork method, observation, interview and written source has been applied at the work. Tradition bearers who know and apply those customs have beeen interviewed in some villages and neighbourhood of the province. At this study, some of the tradition bearers are the old ones in this town who have still applied those traditions and the others are included different age groups and educational levels. People who are mentioned has experienced these practices that are about sinking into oblivion and argue for practicing actively nowadays. We are going to examine the birth tradition having an important role in Inebolu culture in three ways; before birth, at the time of birth and after birth.
