I read with great interest the article by Karacepis and colleagues discussing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on adult vaccinations. The article states that the increase in adult pneumococcal vaccinations during the COVID-19 pandemic is based on information spread among the public. Additionally, there are many studies investigating the effects of pneumococcal vaccinations on the clinical course of COVID-19. While some studies indicate that the pneumococcal vaccine provides moderate protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly those conducted in the early stages have stated that there was no effect. I believe that more recent and comprehensive research will provide a clearer understanding of this issue.
