An Evaluation on The Effectiveness of The Islamic Cooperation Organization as a Regional Organization in The Middle East
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present an evaluation on the effectiveness of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as a regional organization in the Middle East. According to this evaluation, it was concluded that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation could not be effective as a regional organization in the Middle East due to both intra-regional factors and non-regional factors. In addition, it was seen that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which was evaluated in terms of the functions and characteristics of regional organizations, could not carry out an effective policy in the region. Since the study, the reasons for ineffectiveness of the Islamic Cooperation Organization will be revealed. This situation will make it easier to understand how important the effectiveness of regional organizations is for the development of Middle Eastern states in the world order where regionalization is gaining importance. The regional states, the relations of the regional states with each other and with other states, the great powers and non-state actors in the international system who want to transform these organizations into their political tools can be counted as key actors that shape the politics of the region. The influence of both non-regional and intra-regional actors has prevented regional organizations from being effective in the Middle East. The qualitative and historical research methods were used in the study, and the evaluations were made by using open-source data, printed texts, news, and internet resources regarding the developments in the period up to this date.
