The Effects of Edutainment Software on Students’ Achievements, Misconceptions and Attitudes towards Biology
Öz
In this study, it was aimed to investigation of effectiveness of edutainment software
used computer assisted teaching in comparison to traditional teaching method at the
comprehension by the students’ of nucleus, chromosomes, genetic information, genetic
code, gene, allele gene, and DNA genetic concepts in Lycee 1 curriculum. In this quasi
experimental type study, there were two chosen groups and each of these groups consisted
of 24 students accepted as one treatment and one control group according to the results of
pre-studies. The treatment group was instructed by edutainment software through computer
assist while the control group was instructed by traditional methods. To measure students’
at the groups academic achievement genetic concepts achievement test (GBT), to identify
the misconceptions the genetic concepts concept test (GKT) and to determine the attitudes
towards biology lessons biology attitude scale (BTÖ) was applied at the beginning and at
the end of the research as pre-test and post-test. While the collected data evaluated there can
be seen that appropriately implemented edutainment software used teaching and learning
processes reduced the misconceptions but did not exactly disappeared.
Key words: Computer assisted instruction; edutainment software; evaluation of educational technology.
