The Habit of Benefiting School Library at an Early Stage of Primary School

Öz

For supplying students' acquisition of reading habit and accessibility skill to the
sources, the essentials are first class then school libraries.

School libraries have been defined as the first places to go in every region and socio economic conditions.

After our research it's obviously seen that despite determining the aims and duties
with regulations, libraries are not in the standard that they should be and also the present
libraries cannot meet the students' knowledge and reading need. As a result of this day by day
they are loosing their members at the same time the students show great tendency to the other
library types. This conclusions show that school libraries is one of the big problems that
require urgent solutions.

Our search is based on these observation and estimation. The aim of the study is to put 

forward the effectiveness of school bookcases in order to gain reading habit by the help of the
information from some students and teachers.

The population of this search is teachers who work in private or state primary schools
in İzmit, Kocaeli and all students who study in class 3, 4 and 5 in these schools. Sample is,
from the population, 66 teachers who work in one private and 10 public schools and three
hundred students who have been selected from the students in class 3., 4. and 5.

In the search which has been arranged according to the search model, two separate
enquires have been developed for teachers and students. In the enquiries that have been
applied, physical situations of bookcases, its usage and the opinions of teachers and students
have been mentioned.

Frequency and percent calculations have been done. According to the findings the
results are in the below. Connected whit the physical appearance of the bookcases, the chance
the bookcases and their position of using them.

It has been seen that the paint of the view between students-teachers and the
knowledge in the literature don’t come to an agreement, the bookcases are too far away from
the standards described in the literature.

İlköğretim 1. Kademede Okul Kitaplığını Kullanma Alışkanlığı

Öz

Öğrencilere, okuma alışkanlığı ve kaynaklara ulaşma becerisi kazandırmada en büyük
yardımcı, öncelikle sınıf, daha sonra da okul kitaplıklarıdır.
Okul kitaplıkları, her bölgede, okulda ve tüm sosyo-ekonomik şartlarda öğrencilerin
ilk olarak yöneldikleri kütüphane türü olarak tanımlanmıştır.
Yaptığımız araştırmada, okul kitaplıklarının amaç ve hizmetleri, yönetmeliklerle de
belirlenmiş olmasına rağmen, kitaplıkların gereği gibi oluşturulamadığı, mevcut olanların da
öğrencilerin bilgi edinme ve okuma ihtiyaçlarını karşılayamadığı görülmüştür. Bu sebeple de,
gitgide kullanıcı grubunu kaybetmekte ve öğrenciler, okul kitaplıklarının dışında diğer
kütüphane türlerine yönelmektedirler. Bu belirlemeler, kütüphanecilik ve eğitim-öğretim
alanlarında, okul kitaplıklarının acil çözüm bekleyen sorunlardan biri haline geldiğini
göstermektedir.
Araştırmamızın çıkış noktasını da bu gözlem ve değerlendirmeler oluşturmaktadır.
Çalışmanın amacı ise, okul kitaplıklarının okuma alışkanlığı kazanmadaki etkililiğini,
öğretmen ve öğrencilerden alınacak bilgilerle ortaya koymaktır.
Araştırmanın evreni, Kocaeli ili İzmit ilçesindeki özel ve devlet ilköğretim
okullarında görev yapan öğretmen ve bu okulların 3, 4 ve 5. sınıflarında öğrenim gören tüm
öğrencilerdir. Örneklem ise, evrenden, 1 özel ve 10 devlet okulunda görev yapan 66
öğretmen ve 3., 4. ve 5. sınıf öğrencileri arasından seçilen 300 öğrencidir.
Tarama modeline uygun olarak düzenlenmiş bu araştırmada, öğretmen ve öğrenciler
için iki ayrı anket geliştirilmiştir. Uygulanan anketlerde, kitaplıkların fiziki durumları,
kullanımı ve öğretmenler ile öğrencilerin görüşlerine yer verilmiştir. Öğretmen ve öğrenci
görüşlerinin belirlenmesi için frekans ve yüzde hesaplamaları yapılmıştır.
Elde edilen bulgulara göre sonuçlar şöyledir:
Kitaplıkların fiziki görünümleri, öğrencilerin ve öğretmenlerin kitaplıklardan
yararlanma durumları ve kitaplıkları kullanma durumları ile ilgili olarak çocuklar ve
öğretmenlerden alınan görüşler ile literatürdeki bilgilerin uyuşmadığı, kitaplıkların literatürde
tanımlanan standartlardan oldukça uzak olduğu görülmüştür.
