In order to create sustainable development, universities, as well as businesses, should attach importance
to sustainability activities and do some work to spread these activities. In this context, the aim
of the study is; it is to raise awareness about the importance that universities in Türkiye should give
to sustainability studies by revealing the current situation. The sample of the study consists of 207
universities in total, including state and foundation universities in Türkiye. In this study the data were
obtained by examining the official websites of universities. According to the findings obtained because
of the study, it has been determined that the majority of universities generally carry out activities
related to sustainability by focusing on a single element of environmental sustainability, such as zero
waste and green campus titles. However, it has been observed that universities are insufficient in reporting
that approaches sustainability studies with a holistic perspective. In addition, according to the
study findings, it has been determined that state universities are more active in terms of sustainability
studies than foundation universities.
