Rethinking Security Pedagogy: A Resilience-Based Education Model in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Space
Abstract
This study reopens the debate on the place of security pedagogy within the field of educational sciences through a conceptual model-building app-roach and proposes a technology-based and resilience-oriented instructional model that we call “Security Pedagogy 2.0.” The fragmented development in the literature of critical security pedagogy, simulation-based approaches in national security, and cyber security awareness training reveals the inter-disciplinary nature of security pedagogy. However, these approaches have not yet converged into a holistic conceptual framework. Security education and pedagogy have become institutionalized and advanced, particularly in Western countries over the past decades; in the last ten years, they have gained an increasingly contemporary and academic dimension in Türkiye through the establishment of master’s and doctoral programs as well as co-urses in undergraduate curricula. The pedagogical theorization of these programs and the clarification of their place within international discussions constitute a critical need for the advancement of the field. The article centers on three core dimensions: critical pedagogy, digital pedagogy, and techno-logy-based methods. Critical pedagogy aims to transform learners into acti-ve producers of security knowledge. Digital pedagogy defines cyber secu-rity, disinformation, and artificial intelligence literacy as essential contempo-rary competencies. Finally, technology-based methods render security edu-cation more accessible, interactive, and resilience-enhancing through simu-lation, gamification, and artificial intelligence-supported learning analytics. Drawing on international literature and the Turkish case, the model argues that security pedagogy should not be confined to vocational domains alone but should be positioned as an innovative approach at the heart of educati-onal sciences. “Security Pedagogy 2.0” offers a framework that is compatib-le with principles of democratization and ethical orientation while strengt-hening the resilience capacity required by the digital age.
