THE EFFECT OF SCIENCE CENTER ON STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES IN SCIENCE EDUCATION AND PERMANANCY OF LEARNING SCIENCE

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of educational activities in science centers on the attitudes in science education and permanancy of learning science. The research was carried out in 2013-2014 education-instruction year in a secondary school in Bursa. Totally 126 (74 girls, 52 boys) students 5 different class participated in this study. In the study, controlled the pre-test posttest experimental research model was used. Experimental group students carried out the learning activities related to the light and colors’ unit for four weeks in the science center. In order to test the significance between the groups, the independent sample t test was used. The data obtained in the study were analysed by computer program SPSS 16. At the end of the study, it was observed that there has been a statistically significant increase in the science lesson achievement and attitude when the activities in the curriculum were implemented in science centers. In addition, the differences between groups was unchanged after 5 weeks. This result shows that Science curriculum can be effectively supported by science centers, and it reflects positively on the school learning

BİLİM MERKEZİNİN FEN BİLİMLERİ DERSİNE YÖNELİK TUTUMA VE ÖĞRENME KALICILIĞINA ETKİSİ

Öz

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Bilim Merkezinde yürütülen öğrenme etkinliklerinin 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin fen bilimlerine karşı tutumuna ve öğrenme kalıcılığı üzerine etkisini belirlemektir. Araştırma 2013- 2014 yıllarında Bursa ilinde bulunan bir ortaokulda gerçekleştirilmiş, araştırmaya 5 farklı sınıftan toplamda 126 (74 kız, 52 erkek), 7. sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır. Ön-test, son-test kontrol gruplu deneysel araştırma modelinin kullanıldığı araştırmada deney grubu öğrencileri öğrenme etkinliklerini dört haftalık süre boyunca bilim merkezinde, kontrol grubu öğrencileri ise okulun laboratuvar ortamında gerçekleştirmişlerdir. Uygulama sonucunda deney ve kontrol grupları arasındaki farkın anlamlı olup olmadığını belirlemek için t testi kullanılmış ve veriler SPSS 16 paket programında analiz edilmiştir. Çalışma sonunda öğretim programında bulunan etkinliklerin, bilim merkezinde gerçekleştirilmesiyle, öğrencilerin akademik başarılarının attığı, Fen Bilimlerine karşı tutumlarında olumlu değişim olduğu ve bu durumun istatistiksel olarak da anlamlı bulunduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca gruplar arasındaki farklılığın, 5 hafta sonra da değişmediği belirlenmiştir. Bu sonuç, fen bilimleri eğitim programının bilim merkezlerinde yürütülen öğrenme faaliyetleriyle etkili bir şekilde desteklenebileceğini ve öğrencilerin okul içi öğretimine olumlu şekilde aktarmakta olduğunu göstermektedir
