THE EFFECT OF SCIENCE CENTER ON STUDENTS’ ATTITUDES IN SCIENCE EDUCATION AND PERMANANCY OF LEARNING SCIENCE
Abstract
The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of educational activities in science centers on the attitudes in science education and permanancy of learning science. The research was carried out in 2013-2014 education-instruction year in a secondary school in Bursa. Totally 126 (74 girls, 52 boys) students 5 different class participated in this study. In the study, controlled the pre-test posttest experimental research model was used. Experimental group students carried out the learning activities related to the light and colors’ unit for four weeks in the science center. In order to test the significance between the groups, the independent sample t test was used. The data obtained in the study were analysed by computer program SPSS 16. At the end of the study, it was observed that there has been a statistically significant increase in the science lesson achievement and attitude when the activities in the curriculum were implemented in science centers. In addition, the differences between groups was unchanged after 5 weeks. This result shows that Science curriculum can be effectively supported by science centers, and it reflects positively on the school learning
