TEACHERS’ VIEWS ON THE NEW (2007) NINTH GRADE HISTORY CURRICULUM IN TURKEY
Abstract
This study aims to explore teachers’ views on the new (2007) Turkish
ninth grade history curriculum in terms of general features, content, acquisition,
teaching-learning process and measurement and evaluation aspects of it. In this
study descriptive research method has been used. The study was conducted in
cooperation with fifty history teachers working at secondary schools in Giresun
and districts in 2008-2009 academic year. A questionnaire was applied to fifty
history teachers. Moreover, ten history teachers were also interviewed. The percentage
and frequency of the data obtained as a result of the study were
analysed and shown in the tables. According to the study most of the history
teachers find the ninth grade 2007 History Curriculum positive in theory but
expressed their uncertainty about implication of it. Inadequate facilities at schools
and insufficient time period of lessons along with lack of in service training
are seen as obstacles in practising the curriculum
