MAP PERCEPTION AND USING IN GEOGRAPHY EDUCATION

Abstract

There are two significant components to understand the message transmitted through maps by map users in a clear way. First one depends on the skills of coding maps with current colors, signs and symbols. In other words cartographs must construct a contrast in the relation of shape and floor and obviously prefers symbols easy to perceive. Second component concerning perceptual image is that the connection of shape and floor starts with selectivity. The purpose here is the omission of contrasting information formed within the connection of shape and floor as we move through the first step from the phenomenon, event and information area in the perceived on the map by the retina of eye, and the grouping and commenting of borders and shapes depending on the principles of Gestalt classification. In addition, it is essential that map readers should have basic geography information in order to perceive the message transmitted through maps.
