Nazi Döneminde Hemşirelik

Öz

Hemşirelik mesleğinin gelişiminde savaşların önemi büyüktür. Savaş sırasında hemşirelik; hasta bakımı, insan sevgisi ve ona yardım etmeyi gerektirmektedir. Ancak II. Dünya Savaşı döneminde, Nazi Almanya’sı hemşireleri kutsal bir meslek olarak görülen hemşireliğin mesleki onurunu yok sayıp, hayatı koruma ve zarar vermeme ilkesini göz ardı ederek meslek yeminlerini bozmuşlar ve insanlık için yüz kızartıcı uygulamalarda bulunmuşlardır. Bu hemşireler arasında bazılarının isimleri öne çıksa da kimliği belirlenemeyen pek çok hemşire bulunmaktadır. Örneğin; Irmgard Huber ve Pauline Kneissler; Erika Ohr ötanazi merkezlerinde aktif çalıştılar ve savaş sonunda yargılandılar. Kötü örneklere rağmen hemşirelik mesleğinin değerlerini koruma çabasıyla görevlerini yerine getirmeye çalışan, Irena Sendler, Annette Schücking, Elfriede Wnuk bazı hemşireler de bulunmaktaydı. Sonuç olarak; tüm dünyaya acı yaşatan bu vahşet süreci örneği üzerinden savaş zamanı hemşirelik nasıl olmalıdır, her şeye rağmen hemşireler mesleki değerlerini koruyabilir mi, kötülüğün parçası olarak iyi kalınabilir mi gibi bazı konular tekrar tartışmaya açılmalıdır

Nursing During Nazi Period

Öz

Abstract Wars play a significant role in the development of nursing as a profession. Nursing during a war requires patient care, loving humans and helping them. However during World War II nurses in Nazi Germany violated their oath by neglecting professional dignity and ignoring the principal of protecting and not harming life and they committed shameful crimes against humanity. While some of the names among those nurses come forward, there are many whose identities have remained unknown. For instance; Irmgard Huber, Pauline Kneissler and Erika Ohr worked actively at euthanasia centers and they were stood trials after the war. Even though there are disturbing examples, it is possible to name some nurses such as Irena Sendler Annette Schücking, Elfriede Wnuk who did their job to maintain the value of nursing profession. In conclusion offering this period of fierce practices during which the whole world suffer as a case, we suggest that questions such as how war time nursing should be, whether nurses can maintain their professional dignity despite everything and whether it is possible to maintain good despite being involved in something bad should be discussed.
