Bu araştırmanın amacı ortaöğretim öğrencilerinin kariyer planlamasını etkileyen faktörleri tespit ederek ortaya çıkan kariyer gelişim ihtiyaçlarının giderilebilmesi amacıyla yapılabilecekleri tartışmaktır. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda öğrencilerin ilgi ve yeteneklerinin ölçülerek ailenin bir karne ile her yıl bilgilendirilmesini ve kişisel kariyer bilgilerinin e-portfolyo olarak sistemde saklanmasını, eğitim hayatı boyunca tutulan kişisel dosyanın bir sonraki eğitim kurumuna devreden bir süreci içeren bir model önerisi geliştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın amacına uygun olarak ortaya konulan modelin, nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak, öğrencilerin kariyer planlamasına yön veren okul psikolojik danışmanları ve okul idarecileri ile görüşmeler yapılarak geçerliliği test edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular ışığında öğrencilerin ilgi ve yeteneklerinin ölçüldüğü kariyer testlerinin yapılması ve saklanması, dönem sonunda bir karne olarak ailenin bilgilendirilmesi, sonuçların ilkokuldan ortaokula oradan liseye ve son olarak üniversite kariyer merkezlerine aktarılması gerekliliği ortaya çıkmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin sağlıklı bir kariyer profili oluşturabilmeleri için önerilen modelin etkililiği katılımcı görüşleri doğrultusunda tartışılmıştır.
In addressing the need for comprehensive career guidance, only assigning school guidance teachers is deemed insufficient. To enhance this service, the proposal contemplates the potential employment of additional teachers specifically dedicated to career planning. A novel structural framework is suggested, wherein a designated teacher oversees the career planning of a cluster of schools, with, for instance, one teacher assigned to monitor the progress of five schools. To assess the viability of this system, a qualitative study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with nine participants, including three administrators and six school psychological counselors. The research adopted a qualitative phenomenological design to identify factors influencing students' career planning. Data collection involved face-to-face interviews using a semi-structured interview form, adhering to the phenomenological pattern. Participants, comprising three administrators and six school psychological counselors, were chosen for their expertise in reflecting on the experienced phenomenon and guiding student career planning. The study's scope was limited to nine participants due to the recurrence of participants' opinions. The average interview duration was 25 minutes, and audio-recorded interviews were transcribed with participants' consent, followed by the extraction of themes and codes.
Examination of factors affecting career planning among students revealed influences from the education system, the students themselves, and their families. Consistent with prior research by Batur and Adıgüzel (2014), interventions experienced by Science High School students indicated the significance of family and education system-related factors in career choices. The research identified challenges in career planning, such as issues with the examination system, delays in guidance, score-oriented preferences over talent-oriented guidance, and parental influence in directing students toward popular professions or areas of personal interest. Parallel findings by Kayıkçı and Tutan (2019) underscored the limited effectiveness of the education system's orientation directive and emphasized the impact of family and individual factors on students' career choices. In alignment with the current research, Kösterelioğlu and Bayar (2014) highlighted deficiencies in students' orientation and professional guidance as a major problem in the Turkish Education System.
The proposed model, based on research insights, underscores the significance of accumulating and transferring data throughout an individual's educational journey, from primary education to higher education career centers. This systematic approach ensures robust data accumulation, facilitating self-awareness in career planning.
In essence, a person's career includes all the roles acquired throughout their life, influenced significantly by values, attitudes, and beliefs about oneself and professions. While self-discovery and understanding of various professions occur, parental and societal guidance shapes the trajectory of career progression. However, for effective career planning, an individual must rely on their own data. The recommended model, supported by existing research, advocates for the recording of students' ability, interest, and value test results in the e-school system from primary school to the last year of high school. This approach empowers students to make informed decisions based on their own data, thereby taking more accurate steps in career development.
