A SCALE DEVELOPMENT STUDY TO DETERMINE THE ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS’ TOWARDS SCIENCE

Abstract

This study aimed to prepare a scale to find out the attitudes of secondary school 5th-6th-7th-8thgraders towards science. While developing the scale, the students’ views about science were taken through composition, scale developing studies in literature were reviewed and a sketch form was made. Pre-application form of the scale was administered on a total of 469 students studying in 5th-6th-7th-8th grades and reliability and validity studies were conducted. As a result of the factor analysis conducted, it was found that the scale explained 53,56% of the variance and Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient was found as 0,87. At the end of the study, a 5 factor, 21 item 5-likert type valid and reliable scale was developed to find out the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical sciences

ÖĞRENCİLERİN FEN BİLİMLERİNE İLİŞKİN TUTUMLARINI BELİRLEMEYE YÖNELİK BİR ÖLÇEK GELİŞTİRME ÇALIŞMASI

Öz

Araştırmada ortaokul 5-6-7-8. sınıf öğrencilerinin fen bilimlerine yönelik tutumlarını belirlemeye yönelik bir ölçek geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ölçek geliştirme çalışması yapılırken, öğrencilerin kompozisyon aracılığıyla fen bilimlerine yönelik düşünceleri alınmış, literatürde yer alan ölçek geliştirme çalışmaları incelenmiş ve uzman görüşlerine başvurularak taslak form oluşturulmuştur. Ölçeğin deneme formu, 5-6-7-8. sınıflarda öğrenim gören toplam 469 öğrenciye uygulanarak, güvenirlik ve geçerlik çalışması yapılmıştır. Yapılan faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin açıkladığı varyans %53,56 olarak belirlenirken, Cronbach Alpha Güvenirlik katsayısı ise 0,87 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ortaokul öğrencilerinin fen bilimlerine karşı tutumlarını belirlemeye yönelik 5 faktörlü, 21 maddeden oluşan 5’li likert tipi geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçek geliştirilmiştir
