A SCALE DEVELOPMENT STUDY TO DETERMINE THE ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS’ TOWARDS SCIENCE

Abstract

This study aimed to prepare a scale to find out the attitudes of secondary school 5th-6th-7th-8thgraders towards science. While developing the scale, the students’ views about science were taken through composition, scale developing studies in literature were reviewed and a sketch form was made. Pre-application form of the scale was administered on a total of 469 students studying in 5th-6th-7th-8th grades and reliability and validity studies were conducted. As a result of the factor analysis conducted, it was found that the scale explained 53,56% of the variance and Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient was found as 0,87. At the end of the study, a 5 factor, 21 item 5-likert type valid and reliable scale was developed to find out the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical sciences
