This study examines the predictive effect of family stress and self-compassion on the self-efficacy of mothers with children who have been officially diagnosed as requiring special educational needs. The study sample consists of 202 mothers whose children have been officially diagnosed as requiring special educational services, as approved by the Ministry of Health and a health board. Data were collected using a demographic information form and the following scales: the Self-Compassion Scale, the Family Stress Assessment Scale and the Parental Self-Efficacy Scale. Statistical procedures include Pearson product-moment correlation and multivariate multiple regression analysis applications. The results revealed that self-compassion, family stress and income level are significant predictors of parental self-efficacy. The results of this study are believed to have important implications for evidence-based practices, the design of intervention methods and policy development. They support the parenting competence of mothers who are struggling with the challenges of raising a child with special needs.
