DEMRE (MYRA), AZİZ NİKOLAOS KİLİSESİ KAZISINDA BULUNAN “THEOTOKOS HODEGETRIA” TASVİRİ

Öz

2003 yılında, Prof. Yıldız Ötüken başkanlığında sürdürülen Demre-Myra Aziz Nikolaos kilisesi kazısı ve duvar resimlerini koruma-onarım ve belgeleme çalışmaları sırasında, “D” olarak adlandırılan yapının güneyindeki çalışmalarda, D1 mekânın içinde, arkosolium tipinde bir mezar yapısı bulunmuştur. İncelemelere göre her iki mezarın aile gömüsü olduğu; yetişkin erkek ve kadın bireylerin çocuklarıyla birlikte defnedildiği mezarların, D yapısının banilerine ait olduğu düşünülür. Arkosoliumun doğu duvarında, özenli bir işçilik gösteren kuzeydeki mezar hizasında, “Theotokos Hodegetria” (Yol Gösteren Tanrı’nın Annesi) olarak tanımlanan bir duvar resmi bulunmuştur. Duvar resminde, büst şeklinde tasvir edilen Meryem’in solunda oturur biçimde çocuk İsa vardır. İsa, sol elinde kapalı bir rulo taşımakta, sağ eli ile muhtemelen takdis işareti yapmaktadır. Tanrı anası Meryem (Theotokos Hogetria)’in çocuğunu şefkatle kucaklamış bir biçimde resmedilişi, Bizans ikonografisinde önemlidir. Meryem özellikle ölüm kültünde, insan ile tanrı arasındaki en önemli aracı, koruyucu, Tanrı’nın cisimleşmesine aracı olması nedeniyle de insanlığın kurtuluşunun ilk adımıdır. Mekânın içinde ve çevresinde çok sayıda mezar olmasına karşın bu mezarlarda yatan kişiler, arkosolium yapısı ve Hogetria tasviri ile özel bir konum kazanır. Orta ve geç Bizans döneminde narteks ve şapellerde özel olarak düzenlenmiş gömü yapılarının kuruluşu, kurucularının sosyal statüleri, dini kuruluşlarla özel ilişkileri ve bu kuruluşun idaresi ile direk ilişkilidir. Bu kişilerin tasvirleri, sosyal statülerini olduğu kadar fiziksel görünümlerini ebediyete kadar korumak amacı ile yapılmıştır. Myra’daki tasvirin üslubu kilisenin tüm duvar resimlerinin üslubundan farklıdır. Üslup, genellikle Anadolu’daki 12–13. yüzyıl duvar resimleri ile benzerlik gösterir. D yapısı ile birlikte bu yapıdan elde edilen küçük buluntuların tarihlenmesi tasvirin tarihinin belirlenmesine yardımcı olacaktır

During the excavation and the Works of restoration and conservations of the wall paintings in St. Nikolaos Church in Demre (Myra) with the presidency of Prof.Yıldız Ötüken in 2003, a funerary building founded in the shape of arcosolium, was found in the room of D1 at the investigations of the southern side of the building called “D”. According to the investigations, both of the tombs in the arcosolium were belonged to a family and also it is thought that the parents who were buried with their childs, were the patrons of the building called “D”.On the east wall of the arcosolium, also on the line of northern tomb which was made by qualified workmanship, a wall painting called Theotokos Hodegetria (The mother of God) was found. In the wall painting, Jesus sits in the left arm of Virgin depicted as a bust. Jesus holds a furled scroll in his left hand and blesses with his right hand.The depiction of the Mother of God (Theotokos Hodegetria) who holds Jesus in her arms with the sense of motherhood, is very important in Byzantine iconography. Especially in the cult of death, Virgin is a very important mediator between God and dead, also she is supposed to be a protector of dead. In addition to this she is first step of the salvation of human because of giving birth to Jesus who is also representative of God. Altough there are many graves in the enviroment of the room called D1, these tombs are in a very special position because of the depiction of Theotokos Hodegetria and the arcosolium. The establishment of funerary monuments in specially aranged areas of chapels or narthexes during the middle and late byzantine periods is associated directly with the social status of their founders, their special relation ship with the ecclesiastical foundations and the management of these foundations. Their depictions were intended to preserve for eternity the image of their physical aspect and the insignia of their social status. The style of the depiction is different from the all painting of the church. The style is very similar to the wall paintings in Anatolia dated
