An Essay on the Nature of the Semantic Relationships Between Concepts in Sufism: An Example of Nafs and Concepts Related to Nafs

Sufism has moved in concert with the principle of the undivisible unity of the theory and practice. Naturally, when it comes to human, each term about human has been related and in interaction with one another. To reveal the semantic relation among these terms would be an important step for a better understanding of sufism. The problem addressed in this article is to reveal the relationship between concepts "body", "soul", "heart", "mind" and an-Nafs. Up Until today, these mentioned concepts have generally been used in the studies about an-Nafs. A compulsory relationship has been approved between an-Nafs and these ones. We also agree that there is a relationship among these concepts. However, the reason why this relationship has been established remains incomplete. In the article, a method study is conducted to make a contribution to the mentioned incomplete issue.

Tasavvufta Kavramlar Arasındaki Anlamsal Bağların Mahiyeti Üzerine Bir Deneme: Nefs ve İlgili Kavramlar Örneği

Öz

Tasavvuf, teori ve pratiğin bölünmez birlikteliği ilkesiyle hareket etmiştir. Doğal olarak, insan konu olduğunda, onun hakkında kullanılan her kavram da birbiriyle ilgili ve etkileşim halinde olmuştur. Bu kavramların birbirleriyle olan anlamsal ilişkisinin ortaya konulması, tasavvufun daha iyi anlaşılması yolunda atılacak mühim bir adım olacaktır. Makalede ele alınacak problem, “beden” “kalp”, “ruh”, “akıl” kavramlarıyla nefs arasındaki ilişkinin açığa çıkarılmasıdır. Bugüne kadar nefsle ilgili yapılan çalışmalarda, genellikle bu kavramlar kullanılmıştır. Nefs ile bu kavramlar arasında, zorunlu bir ilişki var kabul edilmiştir. Biz de kavramlar arasındaki bu ilişkiyi kabul ediyoruz. Ne var ki, hangi gerekçeyle, hangi sebeplerle bu ilişkinin kurulduğu eksik kalmıştır. Makalede, eksik kalan bu hususun giderilmesine bir katkı sağlamak amacıyla, bir yöntem denemesi yapılmaktadır.
