The Examination of Perception of Guidance and Psychological University Student About Their Profession Via Metaphor
Abstract
In
this study, it is aimed to research perceptions of Guidance and Counseling
Department in the Atatürk University students about their profession via
metaphor. In the research, one of the case study patterns, an embedded
single-case design was used. The participants in this study included 276
students from Guidance and Counseling Department in the Atatürk University
students, Turkey. Data were collected by open ended survey method. Participants
were asked to complete sentence “Graduation from the Department of Guidance and
Counseling is like..., because…”. Data were analysed by using content analysis
method. According to results, overall, participants produced 91 valid metaphors
about their professions. Regarding to these metaphorical images, 14 conceptual
categories were identified. Within this framework, the metaphors developed by
university students department of guidance and counseling were analysed and
commented in five steps: (1) naming metaphors (2) classification of metaphors
(3) developing categories (4) conducting validity and reliability and (5)
transferring datas on computer system.
