IMPLICATIONS OF A QUALITATIVE STUDY: BEING LGBTQ+ IN TURKEY

Öz

This study has been carried out in order to understand the experiences – both in interpersonal and societal processes – of LGBTQ+’s in Turkey, who are a marginalized minority group that is exposed to different forms of discrimination and censorship, with 17 LGBTQ+ participants aged between 25 – 42, from various cities in Turkey. In this study, a qualitative research method based on phenomenological approach was used in order to reveal LGBTQ+’s experiences by using the diversity and richness of their expressions. In the interviews, a semi-structured interview form was used and the data were analyzed with Maxqda 12 software. As a result of the analyzes, the themes were shaped around the participants' their experiences with coming-out processes, discrimination and violence, the perspective of the government, society and non-governmental organizations towards LGBTQ+’s, and what can be done to avoid negative processes related to discrimination, violence and coming-out.

NİTEL BİR ARAŞTIRMANIN GÖSTERDİKLERİ: TÜRKİYE’DE LGBTQ+ OLMAK

Öz

Bu araştırma, Türkiye’de farklı ayrımcılık ve şiddet biçimlerine maruz bırakılan ve toplumda marjinal bir azınlık grubu olarak nitelendirilen LGBTQ+’ların hem kişilerarası hem de toplumsal süreçlerdeki deneyimlerini incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma kapsamında Türkiye'nin çeşitli illerinden 25 – 42 yaşları arasındaki 17 LGBTQ+ katılımcı ile görüşülmüştür. Bu çalışmada LGBTQ+’ların ifadelerindeki çeşitlilik ve zenginliği kullanarak deneyimlerini ortaya çıkarmak için fenomenolojik yaklaşıma dayalı nitel bir araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Görüşmelerde araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmış ve veriler Maxqda 12 yazılımı ile analiz edilmiştir. Analizler sonucundaki temalar, katılımcıların açılma süreçleri, kendini açma, ayrımcılık ve şiddet ile ilgili deneyimleri, hükümetin, toplumun ve sivil toplum kuruluşlarının LGBTQ+’lara bakış açısı ve ayrımcılık, şiddet ve açılma ile ilgili olumsuz süreçlerin olmaması için yapılabilecekler ekseninde şekillenmiştir.
