EKONOMİK ÖZGÜRLÜK VE İNSANİ GELİŞME: E7 ÜLKELERİ İÇİN PANEL VERİ YAKLAŞIMI

Öz

Bu çalışma Heritage vakfı tarafından 1995 yılından bu yana her yıl düzenli olarak yayınlanan Ekonomik Özgürlük Endeksi ile Birleşmiş Milletler tarafından oluşturulan ve kalkınmanın temel göstergesi olarak sıklıkla kullanılan insani gelişme endeksi ilişkisini 1995-2023 dönemine ait E7 ülkeleri özelinde ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada yöntem olarak panel ARDL yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Panel Ortalama Grup (PMG) tahmincisi yöntemi ile ekonomik özgürlüklerin insani gelişme üzerindeki uzun ve kısa dönemli etkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Ampirik analiz sonucunda, kısa dönemde değişkenler arasındaki etkinin anlamlı olmadığı, uzun dönemde ise değişkenler arasında bir eş bütünleşme ilişkisinin olduğu görülmektedir. Buna göre; ekonomik özgürlüklerde meydana gelen %1’lik bir artışın insani gelişmeyi ortalama %0,12 oranında; GDP değişkeninde %1 oranında bir artışın HDI değişkenini ortalama %0,10 oranında arttırdığı bulgusu elde edilmiştir. Ayrıca, Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) Panel Granger Nedensellik testine göre kısa dönemde yalnızca ekonomik büyümenin ekonomik özgürlüğü etkilediği, diğer değişkenler arasında ise kısa dönemli bir nedensellik ilişkisinin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir.

ECONOMIC FREEDOM AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT: A PANEL DATA APPROACH FOR E7 COUNTRIES

Öz

This study aims to reveal the relationship between the economic freedom index, published annually by the Heritage Foundation since 1995, and the human development index, created by the United Nations and frequently used as a fundamental indicator of development, specifically for the E7 countries for the period 1995-2023. The panel ARDL method was used as the methodology in the study. The Panel Mean Group (PMG) estimator method was used to assess the long- and short-term effects of economic freedoms on human development. The empirical analysis revealed that the effect between the variables was not significant in the short term, while in the long term, there was a cointegration relationship between the variables. Accordingly, it was found that a 1% increase in economic freedoms increases human development by an average of 0.12%; a 1% increase in the GDP variable increases the HDI variable by an average of 0.10%. Furthermore, according to the Dumitrescu-Hurlin (2012) Panel Granger Causality test, it was determined that in the short term, only economic growth affects economic freedom, and there is no short-term causality relationship among the other variables.
