HATE SPEECH AGAINST REFUGEES AND SOCIAL DISORGANIZATION

Öz

This study focuses on widespread hate speech towards refugees. It is evident that refugees are a source of unrest in society, and a considerable part of people are concerned about the deterioration of the regular social order. According to many sociologists of deviance, especially social disorganization theorists, social disorder increases when society is exposed to new ideas and customs that do not fit the conventional social order. In times of rapid change and mass migrations, as experienced in the United States in the early twentieth century, the disorder can be predicted to be widespread all along the society's old configuration. Labelling theory, which we concentrate on, reveals this point of view by making the middle classes an object of analysis. This study claims that targeting other/stranger elements in the public sphere through labeling behavior further increases the contradiction and disorder because the negative labels attributed to individuals always cause a conflicting environment where this negative image is emphasized.

MÜLTECİLERE DÖNÜK NEFRET SÖYLEMİ VE TOPLUMSAL DÜZENSİZLİK

Öz

Bu çalışma mültecilere yönelik yaygın nefret söylemine odaklanmaktadır. Mültecilerin toplumda bir huzursuzluk kaynağı olarak görüldüğü ve halkın önemli bir kısmının alışılageldik yapısal durumun bozulmasından endişe duydukları gözlenmektedir. Sosyal düzensizlik teorisyenleri başta olmak üzere birçok sapma sosyologuna göre, bir toplum alışılageldik sosyal düzene uygun düşmeyen yeni fikirlere ve geleneklere maruz kaldığında, sosyal düzensizlik artar. Yirminci yüzyılın başlarında Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde olduğu gibi, hızlı değişim dönemlerinde ve özellikle kitlesel göçler meydana geldiğinde, düzensizliğin tüm toplumlarda yaygın olacağı öngörülebilir. Bizim odağa aldığımız etiketleme kuramı da bu bakış açısını, orta sınıfları bir analiz nesnesi kılarak ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışmada öteki/yabancı unsurların, etiketleme davranışı yoluyla kamusal alanda hedefe konmalarının çelişki ve düzensizliği daha da artırdığı iddia edilmektedir. Zira bireylere atfedilen negatif etiketler, bu negatif imaj odağında çatışmalı bir vasatın oluşmasına yol açar.
