Öz

Bu çalışma üstün yetenekli çocuk ve ergenlerin varsayıldığından öteye sahip olabilecekleri
duygusal ve sosyal problemleri vurgulayabilmek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Üstün
yeteneklilik durumunun sadece zihinsel anlamda normallikten farklılaşmak olarak değil,
buna eşlik eden sosyal, duygusal ve kişisel özelliklerinin farklılaşması boyutlarıyla da ele
alınması gerekmektedir. Üstün yetenekli çocuk ve ergenler düşünüldüğünden daha çok
duygusal ve sosyal uyum problemleri yaşamakta ve sonuçta bu problemlerle yaşamaya
devam etmektedir. Problemlilikten kurtulmanın yolu olarak entellektüel anlamda
normaliteye uyma ve böylece başaçıkma yolunu seçmektedirler. Çalışma kapsamında son
yıllarda gerçekleştirilen araştırmalardan üstün yeteneklilerin yaşadığı yoğun sosyalduygusal
uyum problemlerinin kaynakları ile informal ve formal yardım yaklaşımları ele
alınmıştır.

PSYCHOSOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF GIFTED CHILDREN AND ADOLECENTS

Öz

The aim of this study is to draw attention to both social and emotional needs of the gifted and talented children and adolescents. There is a need of a study which gives importance on the fact that gifted individuals are not only deviant intellectually, but also deviant socially and emotionally when compared to their non-gifted counterparts. Gifted children and adolescents have more social and emotional problems than what they are assumed to have and they eventually continue to live with these problems. They choose to adopt normality intellectually as a way of getting rid of the problems and coping with them. Over the time gifted person tries to hide his or her giftedness for the sake of social , and in return creativity may disappear. In the scope of this study, it is discussed the source of gifted and talented children’s social and emotional problems and formal-informal help approaches from recent research.
