AN EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON COMPARISON OF TEN-FINGER TYPING LEARNER’S PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT LEVELS WITH ALMENA AND ACAR METHODS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to comparison of ten-finger keyboard learner’s performance improvement levels with Almena and Acar Methods which are developed for keyboarding. An experimental research design which is applied F and Q (two) groups pre-test and post-test, is used in this study. The data’s obtained through “Analytical Keyboarding Rubric (α=0.71)” which is developed by Acar (2009) and used to determine of learner’s performance improvement levels for ten-finger keyboarding. This research is conducted on 30 administrative secretaries who are computer user and untrained about keyboarding, and performed by an application which is included 30 hours. Two group are used in this experimental study, and these are expressed F group which is applied Acar Method and used to ten-finger Turkish F type keyboarding, and Q group which is applied Almena Method and used to ten-finger Turkish Q type keyboarding. Each group is consisted 15 administrative secretaries, thus provided random equivalence in both groups. In this experimental study, examined learners keyboarding and compared performance improvement levels of F and Q groups. Analytical Keyboarding Rubric which is included position, rhythm, typing and accuracy factors and novice, advanced beginner, competent user, proficient performer and expert performance improvement levels, is used to comparison of performance improvement levels of F and Q groups in this study. According to research findings, no significant difference was found in position and accuracy factors (p>0.05), but significant difference was found in rhythm and typing factors (p<0.05) between two groups. The difference is in favor of F group which is applied Acar Method. In other words, learners of F group typed more accuracy and more rhythm than learners of Q group, and observed that keyboarding performance level of F group is proficient performer. These findings are supported and proven by statistically. In summary, this experimental research results show that ten-finger typing with Acar Method is more effective than Almena Method in terms of rhythm and accuracy factors, and learning ten-finger typing is very easy with Acar Method.
