Lyda C. Arévalo-Flechas, PhD, MSN, RN has earned a reputation for cutting edge research on the factors influencing Latino/Hispanic caregivers‘ perception of the experience of caring for a relative with Alzheimer‘s disease nationally and internationally. Her nursing career spans more than 30 years, including working as an operating room nurse, teaching university students and a researcher.

Dr. Bluhm is a tenured full professor and the Director of International Programs at the School of Nursing, University of Texas Health San Antonio. She is very passionate about the health and welfare of vulnerable populations and improving patient outcomes. Her programs of research include neuroscience and mental health as well as education-based and community service-based research. She established the Filipino American (FA) Patient-Centered Outcomes Research “Nayon” (Village) Networks in 15 US States to help improve patient outcomes among FAs. A recipient of multiple local, regional, national, and international awards, she is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and Academy of Nurse Educators Fellow. She currently chairs the Planning Committee of the Annual AAN Conference. She is also the Region Chair of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce Central Texas Region. She is Honorary Medical Commander Emeritus of the 149th Wing of the Texas Air National Guard and the Commander Civic Leader of the United States Air Force’s Air Education and Training (AETC).

 Dr. Gutiérrez Valverde is a Full Time Professor at the School of Nursing at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL), where she is also Coordinator of
Internationalization and Academic Exchange. She is a member of the Consolidated. Research Group: Human Responses to Health and Illness. In the Research Line: Health care in a) risk of developing chronic states and b) in vulnerable groups, and she is President of the Biosafety Committee registered in COFEPRIS. She has a Doctorate and Master of Science in Nursing from the School of Nursing, UANL. A bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Metropolitan Autonomous University of Xochimilco, and a Diploma in Adult Intensive Care from the School of Medicine of the Technical Institute of Monterrey.
Some of the National distinctions: vice president (2022-2024), president (2018-2022) of the Tau Alpha Chapter of Sigma, member of the National System of Researchers, CONACYT. Level I (federal recognition in México); PRODEP Profile and Nursing Teacher Certification by the Mexican Council for Nursing Certification.
Among the International Distinctions the following can be mentioned: Doctor Honoris Causa awarded by the International Organization for Inclusion and Educational Quality; Vice president of the Region of Mexico and Caribbean of the Internacional Nursing Association of the School and Faculties of Nursing (ALADEFE) (2022-2026). Director of the Board of Directors of Sigma Theta Tau International from 2017-2021. Coordinator of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region of Sigma from 2013-2017.
Visiting Professor at: Catholic University of Los Angeles de Chimbote. Distinction
awarded by the Government of the Republic of Peru, from the School of Nursing of the University of Concepción de Chile. She participated as a visiting scholar at the Tomás Frias Autonomous University, Potosí, Bolivia, in the first Doctorate in Nursing financed by the Italian Cooperation and the PhD Summer Program in the Balearic Islands, Spain.
Her Research Area: Chronic-degenerative diseases in the different stages of life and risk behaviors that contribute to the development of these diseases, in addition to behaviors for care and prevention. She has published in indexed magazines, book chapters, and has presentations in different forums at national and international level, as well as projects financed by the UANL and CONACYT. She is a coordinator for the GEMM research in the School of Nursing, UANL. She did a research stay in the Texas Biomedical Institute and in the University of Tennessee of Health Science Center. She is an inventor of the utility model with registration in the Institute of Industrial Property in Mexico and registration until 2028.
