Development of GEANT4 Monte Carlo Simulation of PPS Diamond Detector Behavior under Sr-90 Source

Öz

In this study, the diamond timing detectors used in the Precision Proton Spectrometer (PPS) system of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN was modeled using a GEANT4-based Monte Carlo simulation. The simulation was created to include the Strontium-90 (Sr-90) radioactive source, collimator, diamond crystals, and electronic readout board as it was in the laboratory test setup. The aim is to provide a better understanding of the geometric and physical behavior of the experimental system. The simulation results were examined in terms of particle distribution, energy spectrum, and energy deposition in the detector channels. The simulation showed that the signal generated by the detector mostly came from high-energy 𝛽- particles originating from Yttrium-90 (Y-90) decay. Additionally, the rate of particles per second on the detector channels has been extracted for three different distances between the source and the detector, enabling the prediction of behavior under different systems.
