The aim of this research is to determine
the history awareness and the interests of the teachers who continue their
education in the Department of Social Studies Education. The screening model
was used in the research. In this context, in 2018-2019, 203 teacher candidates
who have been studying in Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Education
Department of Social Studies Education have formed the working group of the
research. The obtained data which is collected by "European
Comparative Project on Youth's Awareness
of History" a questionnaire
prepared by benefiting from Turkey application questions. Descriptive
statistics (percentage and frequency distributions) techniques were used in the
analysis of the data with the help of the statistical package program.
According to the results of the study, the teacher candidates accepted the
importance of the field of history and its relevance to their lives. The
teacher candidates who define history as a guiding, up-to-date statement,
guiding society, impressive, a source of adventure and excitement emphasized
the importance of concrete, tangible, visible projection in the presentation of
history. Teacher candidates interests in history lessons focused on the issues
they associate with their cultural values and geography.
