Aim: To compare the color changes of current bulk-fill composites polymerized with different modes immersed in coffee solution with a conventional resin composite.
Materials and Method: 120 disc-shaped specimens were prepared, 40 specimens from each of three different restorative materials [GrandioSO (GSO), GrandioSO x-tra (GSX), VisCalor bulk (VCB)], using 8-mm diameter and 4-mm thickness molds. Each composite group was polymerized by applying the high power (1200 mW/cm2) and turbo (2100 mW/cm2) modes of the LED curing unit for the times specified in the instructions (n=20). Each group was divided into two subgroups to be immersed into beverages (coffee, and distilled water) (n=10). The color change values [CIEDE2000 (ΔE00)] were calculated at the end of the 1st, 7th, and 30th days. Three-way ANOVA and multiple comparison tests with Tukey HSD at a significance level of p<0.05 were performed for the comparisons of ΔE00 values.
Results: When the ΔE00-t3 values are examined, the samples of GSX composite polymerized with turbo mode and stored in coffee indicated the highest statistically significant values (17.45 ± 0.95), while the lowest values were recorded in the samples stored in distilled water of all tested composite*polymerization mode groups.
Conclusion: The highest color stability after 30 days of storage was observed in the conventional composite group, regardless of polymerization mode, compared to the bulk-fill composites tested. It can be said that the preheating procedure can improve the color stability of bulk-fill composites.
Keywords: color stability; preheating; polymerization mode.
