Öz
Medical texts are important in terms of to enlighten the history of language, to follow its development and to determine the rate of relationship with the other languages. Old Oghuz Turkish, which has written texts since 13th century, gave many original and translation works based on Oghuz dialect and it stated in the sources that it continued to 15th century and left its place to Ottoman Turkish. Medical texts have important place in the works of Old Oghuz Turkish. It is not surprising that there are many works on health, which interests all the people. The language of medicine which developed in these works continued until 18th century when Ottoman medicine turned its face to western world. On the one hand some linguists who make studies to determine the properties of these texts on the other hand historians of medicine and pharmacy payed attention to these texts in terms of material they contain and methods. Medical texts are special products of language called language of specialty. Many expressions in these works generally are used in a different sense. Another property of medical texts written in Old Oghuz and Classical Ottoman Turkish is that they contained many Greek, Latin etc. words, as the language of these texts are formed with translations. These texts are hard to study as the expressions used in different senses and there are many Arabic and Persian loan words. Moreover, it requires great care, meticulousness and knowledge of field. Many important problems are met in studies conducted on these texts as the above-mentioned issues have been ignored. In the present study, the studies on historical medical texts are evaluated with the main lines, many determinations are made such as choosing texts to study or detecting meaning etc., and proposals are made for the problematic issues.
