Öz

Takım kaptanlığı, resmi sporcu liderliğinin en önemli yapısı konumundadır. Bu nedenle kaptana önemli görev ve sorumluluklar atfedilmektedir. Literatürde profesyonel futbol branşında bu konuyla ilgili yeterli sayıda nitel araştırma olmadığı gözlenmiştir. Bu önemle yapılan araştırmanın amacı, erkek profesyonel futbolunda takım kaptanlarının sporcu liderliği görev ve sorumluluklarına ilişkin algı ve deneyimlerini bağlamsal faktörler (saha, antrenör, kulüp yönetimi) dahilinde incelemektir. Araştırma katılımcılarını 2024-2025 sezonun da Türkiye de bulunan Diyarbakır, Elazığ ve Mardin illerindeki 2. ve 3. lig takımlarında aktif takım kaptanlığı yapan erkek profesyonel futbolcular oluşturmuştur. Dokuz takım kaptanıyla yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak bireysel görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilere içerik analizi uygulanarak, veriler yorumlayıcı fenomenolojik analiz ile değerlendirilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda; takım kaptanlarının kaptan olmadan önce futbolculuk harici görev ve sorumlulukları olmadığı belirlenmiştir. Bazı sporcuların ise liderlik özelliklerini sergileyerek takım arkadaşlarına yardımcı oldukları belirlenmiştir. Kaptanın antrenör ve kulüp yönetimiyle takım ve futbolcu adına iletişim köprüsü ve temsilci olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca kaptanın sıklıkla kulüp yönetimiyle maddi konulardaki sorunların (prim, maaş) çözümüne yönelik iletişim köprüsü olduğu da belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak takım kaptanlarının saha, antrenör ve kulüp yönetimi bağlamlarında kendilerine önemli görev ve sorumluluklar atfettikleri saptanmıştır.

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF ATHLETE LEADERSHIP ACCORDING TO TEAM CAPTAINS? PERCEPTION AND EXPERIENCES IN PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL

Öz

The team captain is the most important structure of official athlete leadership. Therefore, important duties and responsibilities are attributed to the captain. It has been observed that there is not enough number qualitative research on this subject in professional football in the literature. The objective of this study is to examine the perceptions and experiences of team captains in men's professional football regarding their athlete leadership duties and responsibilities within the contextual factors (field, coach, club management). The data were collected via a semi-structured interview form. The research participants were male professional footballers who were active captains in the second and third league teams in the provinces of Diyarbakır, Elazığ, and Mardin in Turkey during the 2024-2025 season. Individual interviews were conducted with nine team captains. A content analysis was conducted on the data, which was then evaluated using interpretative phenomenological analysis. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that team captains did not have any duties or responsibilities beyond being footballers before becoming captains. It was also found that some athletes demonstrated leadership qualities and assisted their teammates. It was determined that the captain is a communication bridge and representative with the coach and club management on behalf of the team and the players. In addition, it was also determined that the captain is often a bridge of communication with the club management for the solution of financial problems (premium, salary). Consequently, it was established that team captains ascribe significant duties and responsibilities to themselves in the contexts of the field, coaching, and club management.
