I am a professor of politics at the Department of International Relations at Işık University in Istanbul. Previously, I was a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Study at the University of Warwick (2023-2024) and an international visiting fellow at the Center for Ideology and Discourse Analysis at the University of Essex (2017-2018). I completed my PhD at De Montfort University in the United Kingdom, focusing on the implications of the Internet on political participation at the local level. Since my PhD studies, my research has focused on three streams: political implications of technology (particularly the Internet), critical security studies and more recently critical discourse analysis. My research has been funded by Işık University Research Fund, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tubitak) and the British Academy. Between 2-18-2021, I was a British Academy Newton Advanced Fellow working with Prof. Vivien Lowndes from the Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV) at the University of Birmingham. Our research focused on local repsonses to Syrian refugees in Turkey.

In May 2023, I have joined the COST Action – “Connecting Theory and Practical Issues of Migration and Religious Diversity” (COREnet). Through this project I have become part of an interdisciplinary network that aims to produce, exchange and build knowledge and collaborations across Europe on the topic of migration and religious diversity.

I published numerous articles in journals such as Security Dialogue, South European Society and Politics, Citizenship Studies, Parliamentary Affairs, Government Information Quarterly, and Local Government Studies. My most recent article (with Vivien Lowndes), published in Journal of Refugee Studies, analyses multi-level governance of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
