WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF CHILDREN'S AND WOMEN'S RIGHTS; BREASTMILK AND BREASTFEEDING

Yıl 2021, Cilt: 2 Sayı: 2, 168 - 196, 02.12.2021

Öz

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that all people have equal rights to life. These rights include the right to health, nutrition and protection. Breast milk is the most important factor in a baby's nutrition. Thanks to many elements in it, it protects the baby against diseases. The same effect applies to breastfeeding mothers. Breastfeeding provides physiological and psychological protection for the mother. Therefore, breastfeeding is a human right for the baby and breastfeeding is a human right for the mother. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child require the protection of these rights in the international arena. However, these rights are violated due to economic inequality, sexist approach, legal problems or socio-cultural factors. For this reason, it is necessary to conduct comprehensive research, strengthen the laws and ensure supervision. The aim of this review is to discuss the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding in terms of children's and women's rights.
