Dijital Akış Platformlarının “Yıkıcı” Etkisi: Sinemanın Geleceğine Dair Güncel Tartışmalar ve Bir Değerlendirme

Öz

Dijital akış platformlarının yükselişi geleneksel sinema sanatının geleceğine dair çeşitli endişeleri de beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu konuda üzerine en çok tartışılan unsurlardan biri “sinemanın ölümü” görüşünün de ortaya çıkmasına neden olan sinemanın teatral biçiminin son bulacağıdır. Bu çalışmada akış platformları ve sinemanın geleceği üzerine yapılan güncel tartışmalar 70. Cannes Film Festivali ve 91 Akademi Ödülleri’nde yarışan Netflix filmleri üzerinden ele alınarak araştırılmıştır. Clayton M. Christensen’in Yıkıcı Yenilik Teorisi yaklaşımından hareketle çalışmada literatür taraması yapılmış, konu ile alakalı tartışmalara odaklanan kaynaklar ve çeşitli dokümanlar gözden geçirilmiş, farklı görüş ve tutumlara yer verilmiştir. Bir durum çalışması çerçevesinde elde edilen veriler araştırma örneklemi bağlamında kronolojik olarak serimlenmiş, betimsel analiz yöntemiyle incelenmiştir. Böylelikle film endüstrisi ve akış platformları arasında süre gelen ilişki irdelenmiş, bu ilişkiler değerlendirilerek sinema sanatının geleceği kavranmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma film endüstrisi ve çevrimiçi video akış hizmetleri arasında son yıllarda ortaya çıkan rekabeti açığa çıkarmakta ve sinema sanatının geleceğine yönelik çeşitli öneriler sunmaktadır. Araştırmada kültür endüstrisini biçimlendiren Netflix’in, film endüstrisi için yıkıcı bir teknoloji olduğu tespit edilmiştir.

“Disruptive” Impact of Digital Streaming Platforms: Current Discussions and An Evaluation on the Future of Cinema

Öz

The rise of digital streaming platforms brings various concerns about the future of the traditional art of cinema. One of the most discussed elements about this topic is the end of the theatrical form of the cinema which led to “the death of cinema”. In this study, the current discussions of the streaming platforms and the future of the cinema are investigated from Netflix movie competing in the 70th Cannes Movie Festival and 91. Academy Awards. Based on Clayton M. Christensen’s Disruptive Innovation Theory, a literature review is conducted, resources and various documents focusing on the discussions on this topic are reviewed and different views and attitudes are presented. The data obtained from a case study are chronologically listed under the research sample and investigated with the descriptive analysis method. Thus, the relationship between the movie industry and streaming platforms are analysed and this relationship is evaluated to understand the future of the art of cinema. This study reveals the competition between the movie industry and online video streaming services in recent years and provides various recommendations for the future of cinema art. This study revealed that Netflix that shapes the culture industry is a disruptive technology for the movie industry.
