Purpose: Entrepreneurship is a qualified concept that brings more than economic and social development of countries by bringing together production factors in a field of activity. Entrepreneurship, which is considered only for commercial and industrial areas, is not considered for the agricultural sector, which also causes farmers and agricultural producers not to see themselves as entrepreneurs. In this context, it should be evaluated and supported under the name of agricultural entrepreneur, considering that there are entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector as in other sectors. On the other hand, although agriculture is seen as the most important source of livelihood in rural areas, it can be said that agriculture is an important tool in combating poverty. This situation necessitates the existence of third sector organizations or individuals called social entrepreneurs in order to produce solutions for the people who have some material and moral problems such as poverty in this society. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of social entrepreneurship in agriculture and to contribute to the literature.
Design/methodology/approach: In this study, a conceptual analysis of agricultural social entrepreneurship was made based on secondary data. In this direction, firstly, the concept of agricultural entrepreneurship has been explained, then the phenomenon of agricultural social entrepreneurship has been examined in detail.
Findings: As a result of the conceptual analysis, it was determined that the agricultural sector should have an emphasis on the social aspect as well as the economic aspect, and the existence of agricultural social entrepreneurs is needed to develop the agricultural sector in order to combat important social problems such as poverty.
Originality/value: This study is valuable in terms of demonstrating that social entrepreneurship is an important factor for agriculture as in other sectors and it is an important tool for combating poverty in rural areas.
