WHAT IS (PRAGMATIST) ETHICS?

Abstract

Contrary to some prejudices, it is not possible to thinkphilosophical views of Pragmatists dissociate from a moral theory. Becausethe ethical values and norms reflect the general character of the humanbeingand existance, pragmatist ethics is grounded on their understanding ofhumanbeing, their metaphysics rests upon the experience and their theory oftruth. Pragmatists who state that the ethics can be understood throughexperience emphasize on opening up our horizons related to ethics as anhappening case. Pragmatists assert the uncertainty, tension and conflictexisting in the moral experience root in the dynamic nature of reality. Andthey argue that the moral life could be achieved if the agent has moral sentiment, constracts his/her personality and approachs to pluralistic ethics. The other point Pragmatists emphasize is ethical propositions are good and therefore true as long as they make a useful contribution to the efforts of humanbeings.For them, this experimental verification process mediates both the construction of individuals and acquiring social goods.

(PRAGMATİST) AHLÂK NEDİR?

Öz

Pragmatistlerin felsefi görüşlerinin, kimi önyargıların aksine,bir etik teorisinden ayrı düşünülmesi söz konusu değildir. Ahlâkî değer venormlar, insan ve varoluşun genel karakterini yansıttığı için pragmatistfilozofların düşüncelerinde ahlak; insan anlayışları, deneyime dayananmetafizik görüşleri ve doğruluk anlayışlarında temellendirilmiştir. Ahlâkındeneyimlerimizde anlaşılması gerektiğini ifade eden pragmatistler, olmaktaolan bir hadise olarak ahlakı anlamaya dair ufuklarımızın açık olmasınavurgu yaparlar. Ahlâki deneyimde mevcut belirsizlik, gerilim ve çatışmanın,gerçekliğin dinamik yapısından kaynaklandığını ileri süren pragmatistler,ahlâki hayatın; öznenin ahlaki duyarlılığa sahip olması, şahsiyetini inşaetmesi ve çoğulcu bir ahlaka doğru yönelmesiyle gerçekleşebileceğinisavunurlar. Pragmatistlerin vurguladığı bir diğer husus, ahlâkî önermelerin,insanın çabalarına yararlı bir katkı sağladıkça iyi ve dolayısıyla doğruolduğudur. Onlara göre bu deneysel doğrulama süreci, hem bireylerininşasına hem de sosyal iyilerin elde edilmesine aracılık eder.
