Determining the Ways Primary School Teachers Follow During the Storytelling Process

Masallar, tüm sınıf düzeyinde hem kültürel mirasın aktarımını hem de akademik ve sosyal öğrenmeyi içinde barındıran önemli yapı taşlarıdır. Olay ve olguları anlatmanın belki de en eski yöntemlerinden biridir. Bu araştırmada, sınıf öğretmenlerinin uyguladıkları masal anlatım teknikleri belirlenmek istenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2019-2020 öğretim yılında Eskişehir il merkezinde görevli ve gönüllü olarak çalışmaya katılan 22 sınıf öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma deseni olarak durum çalışması kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen bulguların analizinde betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Veriler kategorize edilerek tablolaştırılmıştır. Veriler, öğretmen görüşleri alıntılanarak desteklenmiştir. Araştırma sonucuna göre, masal anlatımında en çok kullanılan teknik, dili etkili kullanma ve masalı görsellerle birlikte sunmadır. Masalların bir öğretim aracı olarak kullanılmasının kapsam alanının geliştirilmesi ve masalların her derste kullanılabilecek şekilde planlanması gerekmektedir.

Tales are essential building blocks that include both the transfer of cultural heritage and academic and social learning at the whole class level. It is perhaps one of the oldest methods of telling events and facts. This present study aims to determine the storytelling techniques applied by primary school teachers. The study group consisted of 22 primary school teachers working in Eskişehir city centre and participated in the study voluntarily in the 2019-2020 academic year. The case study was used as the research design. Research data were collected by semi-structured interview technique, one of the qualitative research methods. In the analysis of the findings, descriptive analysis and content analysis were used. The data were categorized and tabulated. The data were supported by quoting teachers’ opinions. According to the research results, the most used technique in storytelling is the effective use of language and presenting the fairy tale together with visuals. The scope of using fairy tales as a teaching tool should be improved, and tales should be planned to be used in every lesson.
