This study examines the potential of the designated trekking routes in Kastamonu province in terms of nature-based tourism. Nature tourism is gaining more and more importance with the increasing demand for special interest tourism. Kastamonu's natural beauties highlight that this province can be a potential destination for nature walks. In this study, the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of trekking routes in Kastamonu were analyzed using the Wikiloc application. In the research, 974 trekking routes were identified, and an evaluation was made based on parameters such as the length, altitude gain, and technical difficulty levels of these routes. The analysis shows that Kastamonu province has many trekking routes with different difficulty levels and distances. This diversity offers a wide range of options for hikers with different levels of interest and ability. However, there needs to be more infrastructure and orientation elements of the hiking routes, preventing the full potential of the tourist assets from being realized. For example, the lack of components such as direction signs, camping areas, and rest areas negatively affects tourists' full exploration of the region. Kastamonu's trekking potential shows the capacity to serve a wide range of interest groups. However, hiking route planning, design, and management should be sensitive to protecting natural resources. This will help the region achieve its sustainable tourism goals. For future research, analysis of visitor typologies and motivations, consultation with local stakeholders, and environmental impact assessments are recommended. Developing effective marketing and branding strategies for Kastamonu as a trekking destination is also important.
